Vampires have existed in the folklore of cultures around the world for thousands of years. They have haunted the psyche of all types of people, from small children to seniors and take many forms - yet they are not actually real. Owned by the same family of creatures such as werewolves, Bigfoot and mermaids, vampires are imaginary creatures who have somehow found themselves so ingrained in the folklore of the society they have their own mythology in many cultures are treated with such knowledge and precision that is almost as if they exist.

Generally, vampires are undead creatures that survive only by drinking human blood that can not be killed by certain methods. They are allergic to sunlight, do not have a reflection and a little weird, really despise the smell of garlic. These "facts" are those who will be familiar to people, and yet they describe a creature which in reality does not exist. However, this does not mean they can not exist in our imagination and, with increasing frequency these days, our media.

Although vampires have always arisen from time to time in popular culture, from novels to horror films, they appear to enjoy a revival at the moment with the immense popularity of books like Twilight and shows such as True Blood. Television late 90s showed Buffy the Vampire cons also went a long way in popularizing vampires, but now it seems that these beings were fully exposed folk to the limelight. Stephanie Meyer mixture of mysterious creatures of the night and romance in Twilight teenager captured the imagination of children worldwide and the resulting films have seen a huge high score at the box-office movies, with obsessive fan arrow to compete with the likes of Harry Potter. Along with this book and a film series is the television less child-friendly, True Blood, which detailed a time where vampires are struggling for the same rights as people living in a small Louisiana town. In movies, vampire movies are something of a camera: the series Underworld with Kate Beckinsale as vampire has shown a more macabre and the recent Daybreakers is to do the same - far from the vampire in a soft voice Twilight movies.

Fortunately, the various ways in which vampires are treated in the film, television and print means that there is something for everyone to enjoy when they take a book or turn on their Sky TV - make sure you store on the garlic before getting too involved!
