Bye Bye Virgin Comics Hello Liquid Comics There are many films based on cartoon characters that have hit the big screen and a little more success than others. Dark Horse has StarWars and Buffy the Vampire cons; Marvel: Daredevil, Hulk, X-Men and Spiderman, and DC Comics: Superman, Batman, and Catwoman.
English business magnate Sir Richard Branson thinks he should be part of the company to comics in 2006, he decided to add an industry's Virgin Group: Virgin Comics. Unfortunately, it was short lived.
Virgin Comics has published stories
- Based on Indian mythology;
- The directors John Woo (Mission Impossible 2, Paycheck) Guy Ritchie (Revolver, RocknRolla), Edward Burns (groomsmen, violet), Jonathan Mostow (Breakdown, Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines) and Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth: The Golden Age, New York, I Love You), which would have been difficult and / or expensive to produce than movies;
- With characters like real celebrities like Nicolas Cage, Hugh Jackman and Jenna Jameson;
With the intention to sell the film rights.
They announced in April 2008 that Stan Lee (former president and chairman of Marvel Comics, co-creator of X-Men, Fantastic Four and Spiderman to name a few) create any new hero for Virgin Comics. They never said what the story would be about, but only that it will be around 10 superheroes backgrounds and of different origins. It should be published in January 2009.
One would think with so many great names to his side that Virgin Comics has taken the world of comics and cinema assault. Unfortunately, it was not the case.
Virgin Comics has failed to attract enough readers and do not sell. Some say it did not appeal to Western audiences. On 26 August, Virgin Comics' New York office has been closed to move to Los Angeles. On September 24th 2008, Virgin Group has withdrawn its backing and the company has changed its name to Liquid Comics.
It is still unclear which way the liquid Comics intention to go and what projects they pursue.
Only time will tell.
